The Serena is on the rim of the crater itself, a long low building of local stone that has grown into the hillside, every room with a balcony over the crater floor two thousand feet below. Maasai dancers at sunset, a fire in the bar, and the descent road minutes away.
We use it for the crater night on our comfort balloon safari and the ultimate northern circuit: to be first down the road at dawn, sleep on the rim.
