Why we book it
Ngare Sero is an old German farmhouse from the early 1900s at Usa River, between Arusha and the airport, set in forest and gardens around a spring-fed lake. Colobus monkeys live in the trees, the birdlife is a morning's walk on its own, and the rooms are in the gardens rather than the house.
It is the first and last night of most of our mainland safaris: twenty minutes from the airport, so a late arrival is a short drive, and far enough out of town that the safari has started before it starts. Half board on most itineraries, bed and breakfast on the ones that eat in Arusha.
