Gran Melia is the big international hotel on the edge of town, looking across coffee plantations to Mount Meru. Large rooms, a long pool, several restaurants and the kind of bathroom that is welcome after a week on dirt roads.
We use it for the Arusha nights of our longer luxury itineraries, where the first and last night should match the camps in between.
