Why we book it
Tembo House is one of the old buildings on the Stone Town seafront, a former consulate turned hotel, with Zanzibari beds and carved furniture in the rooms and a small pool between the house and the beach. Forodhani gardens and the night food market are a five minute walk along the water.
We use it for the first nights of most Zanzibar trips because it is where the town is easiest: our guide collects you at the door for the walking tour, and the dhows go past the terrace at sunset. One thing to know: the hotel serves no alcohol. Guests who want a drink walk two minutes to the next terrace.
